Gary Mayne is a current resident of Washington state and a Colorado native. From big bands to salsa bands and rock bands to the symphonic stage, Gary has taught, performed and recorded with a diverse array of ensembles around the World. He is an active performer, presenter, educator, clinician and adjudicator who loves working with people of all ages and backgrounds. In addition to maintaining an active performance and recording schedule, Gary is a Mental Health Counselor in Washington in private practice.
As a symphonic musician, Gary has performed with the Colorado Symphony, the Colorado Music Festival Orchestra,Opera Colorado, the Greeley Philharmonic Orchestra, the Wyoming Symphony and the Colorado Springs Philharmonic and has toured as a member of the SPARK Brass Quintet.
Gary spent a span of 10 years as the trombonist with Big Head Todd and the Monsters and has performed and recorded with them in Colorado, Florida, and the Caribbean as well as performing at numerous festivals with multiple headlining shows at Red Rocks Amphitheater.
As a big band performer he has performed and recorded regularly with groups such as the Ben Markley Big Band, the David Caffey Jazz Orchestra, the Socrates Garcia Latin Jazz Orchestra, the 9th and Lincoln Orchestra, the Steve Owen Big Band, The Fred Hess Big Band, The Steve Lippia Big Band, the Dan Gailey Jazz Orchestra, the Colorado Jazz Orchestra, the H2 Big Band, the Fred Hess Big Band, the Glenn Miller Orchestra, the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra, and many more!
With a great passion for Latin American music, Gary has performed and recorded extensively with Quemando, Conjunto Colores, La Tremenda, Kizumba, Ceniza, La Candela and the Arturo Sandoval Mambo Big Band. He has performed with such notable singers as Willy Gonzalez, Ismael Miranda, Victor Manuelle, Cano Estremera,Hector Tricoche, Paquito Guzman, Charlie Cruz, Frankie Negron, Roberto Blades, Tito Rojas, Jerry Rivera, Los Adoloscentes, Maelo Ruiz, Jose Alberto "El Canario", Lalo Rodriguez, Luisito Carrion, Edgar Joel, Willie Gonzalez, Charlie Cruz, and Domingo Quinones. Gary led his own Salsa Band in Washington D.C. called SalsAmerica!
As an educator Gary has taught throughout the United States, Europe, and served as the trombone teacher at the LeBam Music Camp in Beirut, Lebanon. Additionally, Gary served as the jazz trombone teacher at the Cyprus Jazz Workshop in Nicosia, Cyprus. Additionally, Gary has been a perennial performer and adjudicator and clinician at the UNC Greeley Jazz Festival since 2007. Gary is scheduled to present his session "What's your WHAT? what's your WHY? and what's your W.H.U.T.?" at the 2018 International Trombone Festival in Iowa.
